Kodagu, also known as Coorg, is a rural district in the southwest Indian state of Karnataka.Farther north are the domed Raja’s Tomb, a burial place of Kodava kings, and cascading Abbi Falls.coorg is the place to be for all nature lovers. Thadiyandamol Hills

Thadiyandamol is located in Kakkabe. A popular hill which offers a mesmerizing view of the surrounding regions and a breathtaking view of the rising sun, Thadiyandamol is also the highest peak in Coorg and stands at an altitude of 5730 ft.
Thadiyandamol is covered with a dense forest and is the best place for nature walks and bird watching. Being a steep hill, Thadiyandamol is also best sought after by trekking enthusiasts. This place is a preferred destination for a lot of families as there are numerous picnic spots on the hill. Thadiyandamol hill also offers a glimpse of the Arabian Sea.
The Nalaknad Palace which is situated at the base of Thadiyandamol hills often serves as a camping spot for trekking groups.
The best time to visit Thadiyandamol is just after the rainy season, from September to February, as the rains enhance the beauty of the surrounding hills. Trekking is risky due to leeches and essential precautionary measures have to be taken.
One can also visit the Padi Iguthappa Temple while visiting Thadiyandamol.

Talakaveri or Talacauvery is the place that is generally considered to be the source of the river Kaveri. It is located on Brahmagiri hills near Bhagamandala in Coorg district, Karnataka.The Temple in Talakaveri is dedicated to Goddess Kaveramma (Kaveriamma) frequently visited by pilgrims and is built in the Kerala architecture style. Talakaveri is considered as a sacred place by Hindus and devotees take a dip in this pond as they believe it to a holy spot. In the day of Tulasankramana, thousands of pilgrims gather here to witness the fountain-head which commonly take place in mid of October.

Wind Mills:

There are many wind Mills installed on the top of the peak which next to brahmagiri peak is not active at present, you can enjoy the windmills on the top of hills and one can see it rotating when fast wind emerges.

Brahmagiri Wildlife Sanctuary:

These Sanctuaries located near to Talakaveri with rare fauna and flora, some routes through the sanctuaries are best for trekking.

Tadiandamol Peak

Tadiandamol or Thadiyandamol is the highest mountain of Kodagu district, Karnataka, India.It is the second highest mountain in Karnataka state. Located at a distance of 8 km from the town of Kakkabe and approximately 35 km from Madikeri, Tadiandamol is in the south-eastern part of Coorg.

The peak presents amazing opportunities for trekking lovers. Once at the peak, tourists are offered with breathtaking views of the area around amidst an exceptionally calm and refreshing atmosphere. The best season to visit the peak is during the months of December to May. And if you are interested in trekking, the time is to go during early winter. The peak is 30 km away from Virajpet.

Omkareshwara Temple

The Omkareshwara temple in Madikeri was built by Lingarajendra II in 1820 in the Mumammadan style of architecture with a dome in the center and four turrets at four corners. Legend has it that the King put to death a pious Brahmin unjustly and in order to appease the spirit of the Brahmin, the temple was built. The temple is akin to a Muslim dargah with a Linga installed near the entrance door. The King inscribed the history of the temple in a copper plate which is fixed at the entrance door frame. There is a water tank in front of the temple and in the middle of the tank there is a “mantapam” connected by a causeway. There are plenty of fish in the tank which is an attraction for children

Iruppu Falls

Iruppu Waterfalls is distance away from madikeri town. Basically it is situated in south coorg, 75 kms from Madikeri and 5-7 kms before Kutta town.

Iruppu Falls gets its name from Lakshmana Tirtha River, a tributary of Cauvery River, that starts from this waterfall.A freshwater fall, with its striking streams of water flowing down the hills, allures not only nature lover but everyone. Amidst the evergreen forest of Western Ghats, it presents an incomparable scenic beauty adding further charm to Coorg

Abbey Falls

Abbey Falls is in Kodagu, in the Western Ghats in Karnataka. It is located 8 km from the Madikeri, 122 km from Mysore, 144 km from Mangalore and 268 km from Bangalore. The river is part of the early reaches of the river Kaveri.

Abbey Falls and Irupu Falls are two of the biggest waterfalls in the Coorg region. They’re best viewed just after the monsoon season but have cascading water all year around. Abbey Falls, located about 15 minutes north of Madikeri, is most accessible. In the other direction, Irupu Falls is nearly two hours south of Madikeri and an hour from Nagarhole National Park. Many people prefer Irupu Falls to Abbey Falls, and it can be followed with a scenic drive through Nagarhole to Bangalore. The area around Irupu Falls is abundant with butterflies in peak season, after the monsoon.

Mountains and Hiking

Perfect for hiking, the Coorg region has some enticing peaks and valleys. One of the most popular routes is from Kakkabe to Thadiyandamol, the state’s highest peak. Allow at least five hours for this hike. Many people also enjoy trekking from the Brahmagiri range, starting from Virajpet, to Irupu Falls. It’s an arduous hike though, through dense jungle. Hiking to Mandalpatti is commonly combined with a visit to Abbey Falls. It’s the most popular hike in the Pushpagiri forest range. Most Coorg homestays and resorts offer hiking and trekking activities.

Dubare Elephant Camp

Dubare Elephant Camp is an elephant training camp operated by the Karnataka government. You’ll be able to learn all about elephants, ride them, and even scrub them while they’re being bathed in the river. The camp is open daily from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 4.30 p.m. to 5.30 p.m. The elephants are located on an island within the camp and it’s necessary to take a boat to get there. Hence, if you want to experience the bathing try to arrive as early as possible, preferably by 9 a.m. However, do be aware that this is a government establishment so don’t expect good infrastructure or for it to be well organized. Furthermore, Dubare is a training camp, not a sanctuary or rehabilitation center. Those who are concerned about the treatment of elephants are advised to avoid visiting it, as the elephants do get chained up and disciplined. It’s possible to stay at one of the cottages at the camp. The camp is located just off State Highway 91, near Kushalnagar, about an hour east of Madikeri.

Namdroling Nyingmapa Tibetan Monastery and Golden Temple

this monastery is home to one of the largest Tibetan settlements in India. The amount of gold in the prayer hall and temple is quite overwhelming, as too are the immense gold statues of Buddha. It’s located in Bylakuppe, near Kushalnagar. Do note that visitors require a Protected Area Permit to stay within the monastery as the area is restricted. However, day trips are allowed. Bring your passport or other suitable identification.

some sightseeing around Madikeri town, Raja’s Seat is the most popular tourist attraction there. This garden spot was apparently a favorite of the Kings of Kodagu. The best thing about Raja’s Seat is that it offers superb sunsets and panoramic views across the valley, all the way to Kerala. However, if you want peace and quiet, it’s best to go in the morning. People flock there in the evenings. Madikeri also has an old fort and palace. Most of the palace has been turned into government offices though. A small part has been opened as a rather unappealing museum
